Roanoke Island · Roanoke Island and the Dare Mainland are at the mid-point of the Outer Banks, situated on the Roanoke and Croatan Sounds. This area includes Manteo, Wanchese, Mashoes, Manns Harbor, East Lake and Stumpy Point. Hatteras Island · Hatteras Island is the southern-most section, south the Oregon Inlet, and includes Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo, Avon, Buxton, Frisco and Hatteras. The island is surrounded by water. The Atlantic Ocean is on the East and the Pamlico Sound is on the West.
